The Women/Survivor Advocate provides Latinas with knowledge and skills to become leaders and facilitates workshops and “charlas” in a safe space conducive to learning, self-expression, and higher self-esteem. The Women/Survivor advocate leads the Leadership groups, empowers victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, both at ¡HICA! and in the community, to develop, pursue and achieve their goals and live free of violence while promoting ¡HICA!’s mission. This is a full-time position and reports to the Strong Families Program Manager.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in social sciences field; prior work or volunteer experience may suffice and experience working with immigrants, particularly victims of domestic violence.
Bilingual: Spanish/English with excellent written & oral communication skills in both languages required;
Outstanding skills in facilitating meetings, workshops, and presentations
Superior interpersonal, organizational, and record-keeping skills;
Self-starter and ability to listen and resolve conflicts effectively;
Commitment to social justice and advocacy;
Ability to manage multiple priorities to ensure meeting deadlines;
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends;
Working knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and MS Office;
Must be an advocate for the mission, values and goals of ¡HICA!;
Ability to travel as necessary, valid driver’s license, automobile insurance and reliable transportation.
