The Victim and Court Advocate is a full-time position for a bilingual-bicultural Spanish/English individual who will assist English and Spanish speaking victims of crime in understanding legal remedies provided by law enforcement and the criminal justice system and who will support the survivor through the process of seeking relief from the abuser. The direct service responsibilities include providing support, information, advocacy and court accompaniment to victims of crime including assistance with Protection from Abuse Orders, civil, criminal and other court matters and legal referral. The Victim and Court Advocate is not a lawyer and does not give legal advice. The Victim and Court Advocate reports to the Strong Families Program Coordinator.
Bilingual: Spanish/English with excellent written & oral communication skills in both languages required;
Bachelor’s degree in social sciences field; prior work or volunteer experience may suffice;
Superior interpersonal, organizational, and record-keeping skills;
Self-starter and problem-solver;
Commitment to social justice and advocacy;
Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people;
Strong orientation to serving others exemplified by excellent customer service skills;
Willingness to work with people in crisis or who have experienced trauma including domestic violence, sexual assault/rape, stalking, or suicide;
Proficient with MS Office;
Ability to travel as necessary and a valid driver’s license;
Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
