Board Certified Psychiatrist

Dr. Carlos M. Diaz is a board-certified psychiatrist and the visionary leader behind Life Psychiatry, a five-star outpatient mental health clinic based in Mobile, Alabama. Raised in New York City in a Dominican-American family, Dr. Diaz earned his medical degree from the American University of Antigua, completed his psychiatry residency at Banyan Community Health Center in Miami, and went on to finish a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of South Alabama. His clinical expertise includes mood and anxiety disorders, psychosis, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, addiction medicine, trauma-related disorders, and neurodevelopmental conditions. He brings a nuanced understanding of both physiological and psychosocial factors affecting mental health, believing that some patients face biologically rooted conditions while others grapple with life circumstances that impact their mental well-being.

Dr. Diaz has received training from esteemed professionals including Dr. John Kane and Dr. Janos Martin, and has worked with leaders like Dr. Richard Schottenfeld and Dr. Robert Morant on heroin reduction initiatives. Additionally, he has contributed as a faculty member at Nyack College, underscoring his dedication to psychiatric education and mentorship.

At Life Psychiatry, Dr. Diaz leads a multidisciplinary team of nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and therapists, aligned under a shared philosophy of evidence-based psychiatry and Christian principles. He personally develops tailored treatment plans that may include therapy, medication, or both—empowering patients to reclaim their lives and health. His work has helped over three dozen patients successfully transition off heroin, marking major milestones in community recovery.

Guided by his mission to help people “Live In Freedom Everyday” (L.I.F.E.), Dr. Diaz continues to inspire lasting change and renewed purpose in the lives of those he serves.
