A MESSAGE FROM ¡HICA!
For Immediate Release:
The past few weeks have weighed heavily on our hearts. As we work to combat the health disparities of COVID-19, the high profile murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd have brought to the forefront of our collective consciousness the brutality that our black brothers and sisters encounter in their lives. We have listened to our black coworkers, family members, friends, and neighbors and mourn with them. We lament and condemn the unnecessary loss of life.
We understand that systemic and institutional racism permeate these acts of injustice. We understand the need to stand together as communities of color. We understand the need of raising our voices on the streets and at the ballot box as we rally, march, and vote for a better future. For over 20 years, ¡HICA! has worked to bridge communities and to dismantle divisions. We will continue to do so but we also commit ourselves to doing more.
We commit ourselves to standing in support of our black family members, friends, and neighbors.
We commit ourselves to celebrating Afro-Latinidad.
We commit ourselves to combating anti-blackness in the Latinx community.
We commit ourselves to advocating for justice for the black, indigenous, Latinx, Asian, Muslim, and LGBTQ communities.

Las últimas semanas han pesado mucho en nuestros corazones. Mientras trabajamos para combatir las disparidades de salud del COVID-19, los asesinatos de alto perfil de Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor y George Floyd han llevado a la vanguardia de nuestra conciencia colectiva, la brutalidad que enfrentan nuestros hermanos y hermanas negros en sus vidas. Hemos escuchado a nuestros compañeros de trabajo, familiares, amigos y vecinos y llorado con ellos. Lamentamos y condenamos la pérdida innecesaria de vidas.
Entendemos que el racismo sistémico e institucional impregna estos actos de injusticia. Entendemos la necesidad de estar unidos como comunidades de color. Entendemos la necesidad de alzar nuestras voces en las calles y en las urnas mientras nos manifestamos, marchamos y votamos por un mejor futuro. Durante más de 20 años, ¡HICA! ha trabajado para unir comunidades y demoler divisiones. Seguiremos haciéndolo, pero también nos comprometemos a hacer más.
Nos comprometemos a apoyar a nuestros familiares, amigos y vecinos negros.
Nos comprometemos a celebrar la afro latinidad.
Nos comprometemos a combatir la anti-negritud entre nuestra comunidad Latinx.
Nos comprometemos a defender por la justicia para las comunidades negras, indígenas, latinas, asiáticas, musulmanas y LGBTQ.
