Job Description: JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director and Associate Director, oversees and assists with a variety of library technologies. Assists patrons with computers, digital resources, and other technology. Oversees and participates in circulation duties and assists patrons with library services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Under the direction of the professional staff, manages library website and social media accounts.
• Manages mobile hotspots and other circulating technology.
• Manages room reservations.
• Maintains a knowledge of the library’s electronic building systems.
• Assists with managing the library’s online resources
• Assists patrons with computers, printing, digital resources, and other technology.
• Provides individual appointments and group classes on various technology topics.
• Greets and assists library patrons with a welcoming demeanor in person and via phone.
• Helps patrons find and check out library material.
• Serves as a liaison between the library and the Jefferson County Library Cooperative and City of Irondale's IT staff.
• Effectively performs all circulation functions including checking items in and out; updating patron records; and creating cards for new library patrons.
• Oversees library circulation and maintains detailed knowledge of library circulation policies and procedures.
• Collects money for various charges; counts and records cash register balances.
• Answers basic questions and refers complex questions to appropriate staff as needed.
• Participates in meetings and training sessions, both in the library and at other locations.
• Serves as backup for duties of other staff members as needed.
• Assumes other duties and projects as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge and Skills:
• Knowledge of standard library procedures
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft, Apple, and Android operating systems
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge Microsoft Office and Google Drive
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of various web browsers and email clients
• Knowledge of social media platforms
• Knowledge of library-related software
• Comfortable using various mobile devices such as E-readers, tablets and smartphones.
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Proficiency in business English, spelling, and math
• Comfortable speaking in front of groups
• Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication
• Commitment to providing excellent customer service

• Ability and willingness to pay attention to detail and to ask questions when unsure

• Ability to work with minimal instruction/supervision
• Ability to sit, reach, bend, stoop, stand for long periods
• Ability to push, pull, and maneuver book trucks with 50 pounds of weight
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
• Ability to see clearly for shelving and computer work
• Available to work evenings and Saturdays as schedule requires
• Clean driving record and ability to safely drive the library’s vehicle as well as navigate to sites throughout Jefferson County (Chevrolet Equinox, no CDL required)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Associates degree in computer science or related field preferred
• Three years library experience
• Customer/patron service experience

HOURS AND BENEFITS
40 hours per week, including some evenings and Saturdays in rotation with other staff. While we will strive to provide a predictable schedule, flexibility is a must.
