¡HICA! Unveils Comprehensive Data Dashboard for Enhanced Insights on Hispanic and Latino Communities in Alabama
Birmingham, AL - September 28, 2023 - The Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama (¡HICA!) is excited to announce the launch of a new data dashboard, created in a collaborative effort with the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama (PARCA). This innovative and interactive data visualization tool is designed to shed light on the critical contributions, challenges, and growth of the Hispanic and Latino communities in Alabama and was made possible with the support of the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham.
¡HICA! is happy to announce that Karin Ingram Park will be joining our team as our new Grants Director! She brings with her a wealth of experience and will provide valuable leadership to the organization.
Birmingham, AL (January 30,2023 ) - The National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders (NALCAB) recently announced that Melissa Rodriguez has been named a 2023 NALCAB Pete Garcia Community Economic Development fellow. Melissa currently serves as a Lending Specialist for Camino Loan Fund at ¡HICA!.
The Housing Counselor/ Financial Coach works collaboratively with the Community Economic Development Team to facilitate and support the economic integration of Hispanic families through services specifically aimed at advancing their financial capabilities, achieving housing and financial stability, and building wealth.

The Executive Assistant (EA) supports the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to further ¡HICA!’s mission. The position requires someone who is organized, focused, intelligent, discreet, creative, and enjoys working in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment that is results driven and community oriented. The EA prioritizes competing interests, stays focused, handles matters expeditiously, proactively, and follows through on projects to successful completion, often with deadline pressures. They work collaboratively with all members of the leadership team.
The Financial Coach will be responsible for working with low- and moderate- income households, focusing predominantly on the Latino community to increase financial capability education. ¡HICA!’s Financial Capability model includes workshops and one-on-one coaching specifically relating to safe banking and DISC (Debt, Income, Savings & Credit). This position will work closely with the Housing Counselor to provide financial capability services to families interested in becoming homeowners, as well as with the Community Economic Development program, Camino and all other ¡HICA!’s programs and staff.

The Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama (¡HICA!) and the Alabama Coalition of Immigrant Justice (ACIJ) call on eligible lawful permanent residents (LPRs) to apply for citizenship and demand that the Trump Administration undo the bureaucratic bottleneck that is keeping hundreds of thousands of eligible LPRs from becoming citizens and voting in the 2020 presidential elections. ¡HICA!, ACIJ, and NPNA partners’ goal is to reach one million eligible lawful permanent residents by 2020.
